Tracking the Recovery and Reinvestment Act

As your Congressman, my primary duty is the represent the voices of the Second District. Iowa has been hit hard during these tough economic times, first by the Floods of 2008 and second by the ongoing economic slowdown. It is because of our economic realities that we must act. That is why I voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes greater investments in infrastructure, education, and technology to create jobs, help families struggling to pay the bills, and support small businesses looking to survive and grow.

According to a new report released by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) Iowa is effectively and efficiently tracking funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. As we make strides towards economic recovery, I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that the Recovery Act provides for a historic level of transparency, oversight and accountability.

As we work to make changes to spur the economy, we must also recognize that no legislation is perfect and no solution will act as a cure-all for our ailing economy. This is just one step in an ongoing process to jumpstart our economy. In Congress, I will continue to fight for Iowans, as I have done all of my adult life, and will work to make sure that the voices of my district are heard.
