PHOTOS AVAILABLE: Congressman Loebsack Joins the American Red Cross for Holiday Mail for Heroes Card Signing

Washington, Sep 24 - Congressman Loebsack joined the American Red Cross, in partnership with Pitney Bowes, to extend holiday greetings and well wishes to service members, veterans and their families through the Holiday Mail for Heroes program. In 2009, the Red Cross distributed more than one million cards to troops, veterans, and military families around the world.

“I have had the distinct privilege to spend the holidays with our nation’s troops who are deployed and stationed overseas, and I have seen first-hand the positive impact these cards and kind words make,” said Loebsack. “Our nation’s servicemembers provide us with security and peace of mind, and I am honored to spend time signing cards to thank our troops for their honorable service and to remind them of our full support.”

Loebsack has brought care packages with gifts from Iowa and holiday notes from Iowa students with him on his visits with our troops overseas.

Any member of the general public can send greeting cards to be distributed to members of the United States Armed Forces and veterans during the 2010 holiday season.  Cards will be accepted through December 10th.

The Red Cross and Pitney Bowes are also encouraging families, schools, youth, civic groups, scouting troops, places of worship, and other groups that are interested in participating in the Holiday Mail for Heroes program to organize and host card-making events.  For a list of tips and ideas, please visit: www.redcross.org/holidaymail.
