Seniors

Rep. Kilroy is committed to ensuring retirement security and quality long term care for central Ohio’s seniors.  Safeguarding and strengthening Medicare and Social Security is one of her top priorities in Congress.

The Recovery Act provided a one-time payment of $250 to people who receive Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, to assist them during these tough economic times. Rep. Kilroy acted to ensure this was part of the act because our seniors on a fixed income are affected significantly by the economic downturn.

As a supporter of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act Representative Kilroy continued her support for seniors. The new call for national service authorizes a dramatic increase for AmeriCorps and other volunteer programs, and creates additional programs for seniors to get involved in their communities.  Rep. Kilroy offered an amendment to the Serve America Act which actively encourages volunteers to help homebound seniors through programs like Meals on Wheels.
