The Economy

Families in central Ohio face the most challenging economic times since the Great Depression. Rep. Kilroy saw the need for effective and efficient action to start the recovery after eight years of policies that hurt families and small businesses. She voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act because it will create and save more than 133,000 jobs in Ohio, while passing the largest tax cut in American history. New investments in America and more money in the pockets of every taxpayer have already addressed the immediate needs of the crisis and will lead to future prosperity for all Americans.

Rep. Kilroy knows central Ohio can lead the way in job creation and a new economy based on transforming our energy future. Ohio’s 15th District is the research center of the world and has the skilled workforce to manufacture the 21st century technologies that can transform our auto industry, help consumers save money and create jobs.

During her first few months in Congress, Rep. Kilroy has worked diligently on the Committee on Financial Services to implement safeguards to make sure the financial crisis we faced this year, never happens again. She made sure those corporations that needed a bailout in 2008 were keeping their promises to the taxpayers and held bailout-king AIG accountable when they tried to ditch out of a program that would save millions of homeowners from foreclosure.

One of Rep. Kilroy’s top accomplishments so far has been co-sponsoring the Credit Cardholder’s Bill of Rights that became law in May. The sweeping bipartisan reform gives safeguards against unfair and predatory practices by credit card companies and will greatly reduce the $20 billion in fees charged to families last year.
