For Veterans

I stand with our nation's Veterans, military retirees and their families. They have put their lives on the line for our families and way of life. They have earned, through sacrifice, commitment and patriotism, and the support of a grateful nation.

As a member of Congress I make it my solemn pledge to take care of those who have taken care of us- our Veterans and military retirees. We must because it is our moral obligation and it is part of our national security. A strong armed services for our future depends on how we treat our troops and Veterans today.

Today, a whole new generation of Veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan are looking to us for health care and support they have so richly earned. They join millions of Veterans who have bravely stood for America around the globe from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Bosnia and the first gulf War. We must maintain a Veterans Administration that is world class, fully funded and providing the resources and support that provides for our Veterans and their families.

We must continue supporting, updating, modernizing and providing needed resources for our Veterans. We must make sure our National Guard and reservists have the support they need. Our troops must never go into harms way without the very best in gear and resources. It is a moral failure when our troops receive any less.

On the battlefield our armed services share an oath: to leave no fellow soldier behind. It must be our pledge, when they come home, to leave no Veteran behind.

VA Updates Online Application for Health Benefits

WASHINGTON – Veterans will find it easier and faster to apply for their health care benefits now that the Department of Veterans Affairs has updated its online Form 10-10EZ, “Application for Health Benefits.”

“VA is committed to tapping into the best that technology has to offer to ensure Veterans receive the benefits they have earned,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. “We continue to look for new ways to improve access to care and benefits.”

This revised online application provides enhanced navigation features that make it easier and faster for Veterans to apply for their health care benefits.  This new version also allows Veterans to save a copy of the completed form for their personal records.

The most significant enhancement allows Veterans to save their application to their local desktop and return to the application at any time without having to start over.  Previously, Veterans had to complete the form in a single session.

This updated online form, along with the revised VA Form 10-10EZ, reduces the collection of information from Veterans by eliminating some questions.

In addition, there are minor changes to simplify the wording of questions and provide clarity in the instructions.  Further enhancements to the online application are expected to be delivered in increments throughout 2010.

Veterans may complete or download the 10-10EZ form at the VA health eligibility website at https://www.1010ez.med.va.gov/sec/vha/1010ez/.  Veterans may also contact VA at 1 (877) 222-8387 (VETS) or visit the VA health eligibility website at www.va.gov/healtheligibility.
