Congressman Dan Maffei

Congressman Dan Maffei was sworn into office on January 6th, 2009 and is serving his first term as U.S. Representative to New York's 25th Congressional District, which includes all of Onondaga and Wayne counties and parts of Cayuga and Monroe counties.
As a freshmen Member of Congress, Representative Maffei was chosen to sit on two influential House Committees: the Financial Services Committee and the Judiciary Committee. During the economic crisis in our country, the House Financial Services Committee has been center stage in both determining the causes of the crisis and writing new regulations to make sure it never happens again. Congressman Maffei was one of the leaders in the Financial Services Committee on the Credit Cardholder’s Bill of Rights, a bill that received broad bipartisan support and took important steps to level the playing field between customers and card lenders. The Judiciary Committee has broad jurisdiction over such diverse issues as immigration, civil rights, housing, bankruptcy and intellectual property law.
In addition to the Credit Cardholder’s Bill of Rights, Congressman Maffei has also taken the lead on legislation to protect small business owners, stimulate a new green economy at homereform the financial services industry and protect consumers.
A proud graduate of Syracuse's public school system, Congressman Maffei believes that every child should have the necessary resources to succeed just as he did. After high school, Congressman Maffei earned a Bachelor's Degree in History from Brown University and Masters Degrees from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Congressman Maffei is a former staff member for U.S. Senators Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Bill Bradley and served as a senior staff member on the House Ways and Means Committee for several years. During that time, he earned a reputation as strong advocate for social security and healthcare. Congressman Maffei understands the challenges facing families in Upstate New York and is committed to honest and open government that is accessible to all.
Congressman Maffei previously served as a Senior Vice President of Pinnacle Capital Management, LLC, a financial services firm based in Syracuse, and is a former board member of Central New York's Spanish Action League, the Tech Central Community Advisory Board, and Donors Choose. He is a member of the DeWitt Rotary Club and a parishioner at Holy Cross Church. A former television reporter in his hometown of Syracuse, Congressman Maffei is a past member of NABET Local 211 of the Communications Workers of America.
Congressman Maffei is married to Abby Davidson Maffei. Abby, who is a Michigan native, also earned a Bachelor's Degree from Brown University. She is a recent graduate of the joint graduate degree program at Syracuse University's Maxwell School and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Mrs. Davidson Maffei is now a Partnership Manager at CARE, a leading international humanitarian organization that fights poverty by empowering women and girls. She also serves on the boards of Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region and HOPE for Ariang, a Syracuse-based non-profit dedicated to providing education and health services for the Sudanese people.
