Assistance & Casework




If you are a Louisianian with a problem or concern surrounding a claim with a federal agency (such as the Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration, military, IRS and Immigration and Naturalization Service), Senator Landrieu's office would be happy to assist you. Please note: as a member of the legislative branch of the federal government, Senator Landrieu has no authority or jurisdiction in judicial matters, pardon or parole cases and cannot with propriety intervene in such matters. Senator Landrieu also does not have jurisdiction over the release or transfer of state or federal prisoners.

For those requesting assistance, Senator Landrieu and her staff are pleased to advocate on their behalf. However, intervention does not guarantee a successful resolution. A member of the United States Senate can only ask that an agency review a decision or expedite the decision-making process. The power to change decisions made by a government agency lies within the executive branch of our government.

As a courtesy to my Senate colleagues, if you are not a Louisiana resident, our office must refer your request to your home state senator.

What You Need to Do

Under federal law, Senator Landrieu's office must have a request in writing before they can take any action on your behalf. Additionally, The Privacy Act of 1974 requires that the office have a signed privacy release form before federal agencies can release information on your case to the Senator's staff. This law was enacted to protect individuals from unauthorized disclosure of personal information without their consent. If you are writing on behalf of a friend or family member, the privacy release form must be signed by the person who needs assistance. The Privacy Release form can be downloaded below, or obtained from any of Senator Landrieu's four state offices.

Your correspondence should detail the problem you are experiencing, what you have tried to do to resolve it, and what you are asking Senator Landrieu's office to do to assist you. Please include your full name, address, telephone number, Social Security number, and any other identifying information which may be appropriate (VA claim number, USCIS receipt number, Alien number, etc.).

Your case will be handled by the state office nearest you. To ensure that your request is begun promptly, be sure to contact the appropriate office.
