How Health Reform Will Affect Children & Young Adults

The health reform legislation included many improvements to health care for children and young adults. Starting this September, young adults in Wisconsin and across the country will be able to stay on their parents insurance plans until they turn 26. This will give parents and young adults relief in knowing they have health insurance while they are in college or looking for a job. For more information on this provision, click here.

Also beginning this September, insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage of pre-existing conditions for children up to the age of 18. The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) will be extended through September 30, 2015, and will receive additional federal funding. For all health plans, insurers will have to cover all basic pediatric services, including oral and vision care.
