Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick was surprised today with the 2010 Congressional Partnership Award from the Economic Development Districts of Idaho (EDDI) and National Association of Development Organizations.
Minnick accepted the award at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce national TradeRoots program, where he was also formally awarded with the U.S. Chamber Spirit of Enterprise Award.
Jim Deffenbaugh of North Idaho’s Panhandle Area Council, representing EDDI, presented the partnership award to Minnick.
The Congressional Partnership Award is given for promoting federal community, economic and infrastructure programs. EDDI (which is made of 6 regional districts across Idaho) stated, “Rep. Minnick is a true leader who has displayed an unwavering commitment to providing new economic opportunities and, in particular, his support for broadband connectivity and rural transportation are of significant importance to local communities around the state.”
Minnick’s office worked with applicants and economic development districts across Idaho to apply for broadband funding offered through USDA Rural Utilities Services and US Department of Commerce. More than $12 million have been awarded to Idaho companies and organizations to expand broadband.
Minnick, a former CEO of a wood products company, brings more than 30 years of business acumen to Congress. Minnick has made it a top priority to bring jobs to Idaho.

Regional Community and Economic Development Policies
Boise, ID – Rep. Walt Minnick (D-ID) was honored with a 2010 Congressional Partnership Award today from the Economic Development Districts of Idaho (EDDI) and the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for outstanding leadership in promoting federal community, economic and infrastructure development programs.
EDDI President Kathleen Simko, speaking on behalf of the six member organizations of EDDI stated, “Rep. Minnick understands that assistance provided by EDDI including comprehensive economic development planning is essential for the long-term competitiveness of Idaho, especially during these tough economic times. Rep. Minnick is a true leader who has displayed an unwavering commitment to providing new economic opportunities and in particular, his support for broadband connectivity and rural transportation are of significant importance to local communities around the state.”
The biennial awards program recognizes members of Congress that have displayed strong support of regional development polices. Winners were selected based on their support of NADO’s national legislative priorities, such as increased funding for the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and other federal community and economic development programs, strengthening the role of rural local officials in transportation planning, as well as supporting the work of regional development organizations at the local level.
