Other Legislative Priorities

Education

While developing our physical infrastructure will play a vital role in getting Arizona back on track, we must sustain and build up our human infrastructure too. Our economy is best served when our children get the best education we can provide them so that they can compete in the global marketplace. Great education can occur in public schools, charter schools, private schools and home schools – it simply takes well-trained teachers that have access to the resources they need.  Instead of imposing more paperwork and red tape on our teachers, we need to let our education professionals do the jobs they know best – teaching our children.

Energy
Greater Arizona is known for its natural resources, and with new technology, we can take advantage of these resources to create 21st-century clean energy jobs and grow a sustainable economy. Around the country, folks are developing energy from solar, wind, biomass, and other resources abundant in our state.  We must not allow Arizona to fall behind in these exciting and innovative new fields. I voted against the Waxman-Markey bill because of the toll that rising consumer costs would take on working families and businesses in Greater Arizona, but I am actively supporting cost-effective and economically viable efforts to help our entrepreneurs develop a successful clean energy industry.

Iraq and Afghanistan
We will never be able to thank our service members and their families enough for all that they have done for America over the last eight years of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is our sacred responsibility to support them both in the field and here at home. That means giving them the resources they need to stabilize Afghanistan, helping ensure that we can leave the important decisions about the future of Iraq to Iraqis, and keeping our sacred obligations to them when they get home.

I also spent Mothers’ Day visiting with our troops in Afghanistan. Learn more about my trip here.
