I am a gun owner myself, and I support the right of all Americans to keep and bear arms. I have opposed all efforts to undermine that right and will continue to do so.

Since arriving in Washington, I have joined 64 of my fellow Democrats in sending a letter to the Attorney General opposing his proposal to ban so-called “assault weapons,” which would affect many of my constituents who use these guns for the same reasons as any other gun.  I also supported an amendment endorsed by the Gun Owners of America which would have strengthened Second Amendment protections for law-abiding folks in national parks in a public lands bill, and voted to include that provision in the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights.

I will continue to work to maintain and protect our Second Amendment rights against every challenge they face.
