Can I apply for a passport online?

  • The US Department of State provides an online service which can help you determine which forms you need, gives you the chance to fill out the application online and will estimate your total payment. You can complete the form by hand by downloading and printing the passport application here.
  • However, all applications must be submitted physically with the correct documents at a US Department of State authorized facility.

Where can I submit my passport application?

  • Many local, state and federal institutions accept passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Find the location closest to you.

Where can I check the status of my application?

  • You can check the status online or by calling the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

What if I need a passport for travel within the next 14 days?

What if my passport gets lost or stolen?

Is it true that I need a passport to travel to Mexico and Canada ?

  • Yes. Under new regulations, all travel to Mexico and Canada now requires a passport.

  • US citizenship is granted at birth or through the naturalization process. To become a naturalized citizen, one must begin by completing an “Application for Naturalization” Form N-400.
