Why Project is a Valuable Use of Taxpayer Funds: Researchers at Michigan State University are leaders in the fight to control Phytophthora capsici, a fungal-like pathogen causing a major disease affecting cucumber, pumpkin, squash, melon, zucchini, bean, tomato, and pepper.  Phytophthora capsici is fungal-like and inhabits soil causing plant death and fruit rot.  The spreading of this fungus has the potential to cripple agriculture making the research to fight it essential.

Why Project is a Valuable Use of Taxpayer Funds: The Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA) is pursuing the construction of a regional water supply system which will serve the regional area consisting of Genesee County, Lapeer County and Sanilac County.  The project will construct 85 miles of water pipeline from Lake Huron and pumping stations to replace the deficient water supply system that now exists. This funding request is for the construction of the proposed new pipeline by the KWA.

Why Project is a Valuable Use of Taxpayer Funds: Genesee County is pursuing the construction of a water treatment plant and the necessary appurtenances.  This 75 million gallon/day water treatment plant will serve 350,000 people in Genesee County and will act as a reliable backup to the City of Flint Water Treatment Plant (serving an additional 100,000 people) and Lapeer County Water Treatment Plant (serving an additional 50,000 people).  The water treatment plant will assist in the replacement of a currently deficient water supply.

Buena Vista funded planning and market feasibility studies and reached settlement with the prior site owner for sale and transfer of the property to Buena Vista Township. The main mall structure was demolished, but environmental remediation work still remains. The project will create a new town center with 240,000 square feet of retail & commercial businesses, 80 affordable homes, and new community facilities & public spaces at the intersection of two major roadways.

Why Project is a Valuable Use of Taxpayer Funds: The goal of the project is facility upgrades necessary to support micro-enterprise businesses to create jobs that address Flint’s 26% unemployment rate.  Between 2000 and 2005, 4.5 million new jobs were created nationwide by micro-enterprises.  When the nation was at 5.8% unemployment in 2002, micro enterprises created nearly 1 million new jobs.  The Oak Business Center, serving as a business incubator, supports technology based growth as identified for this region of the United States, through its major universities and colleges, funding sources, decision support technology, and business planning and counseling.

Description:  The project is the purchase of thirty two (32) CNG (compressed natural gas) powered para-transit vehicles to replace vans from model year 1995 and 1997.  The existing fleet averages over 364,000 life miles per vehicle.  Para-transit vehicles are used to provide demand response service to persons who can't access regular primary route buses.  MTA proposes to purchase cutaway buses with a standard gasoline engine and convert them to CNG power.

Why Project is a Valuable Use of Taxpayer Funds: Grand Blanc Township is proposing the design and reconstruction of the Holly Road and I-75 interchange at exit number 108.  This project will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along the immensely traveled I-75 corridor ultimately making travel safer and lessening environmental impacts in this area.  Funding would be used for a design of this project.

Why Project is a Valuable Use of Taxpayer Funds: Genesee County is proposing to retrofit the GVRC with green, energy efficient, safe, and sustainable elements.  The facility consists of 3 buildings with a total square footage of 60,000.  Improvements include energy efficient windows, reconfiguration of the electrical, communication, lighting and heating systems to optimize them and make the systems more energy efficient.

Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) – Replacement Vehicles
