WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) and 62 other Republican Members of the U.S. House of Representatives filed an amicus brief through the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) in a federal court in Florida supporting the effort to repeal a key component of Obamacare.  The brief argues that the U.S. Constitution is being violated by the individual mandate in Obamacare forcing all Americans to buy health insurance.  Similar legal challenges have been filed in Virginia.

“The American people have spoken and they oppose this massive expansion of the federal government,” said Jones.  “Their rights are being violated and we simply cannot sit back and watch it happen.  We need affordable health care in this country – not a big government takeover.”

The ACLJ is also challenging the federal mandate with its own lawsuit in the Washington, D.C. federal court.  An amicus brief was also filed by the ACLJ on behalf of Congressman Jones and 27 other Members of Congress supporting the Commonwealth of Virginia in its lawsuit against the individual mandate.

"This is a critical constitutional battle and I'm delighted that Congressman Walter Jones is standing with us in this vital effort," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ.  "Congressman Jones understands that this law is not the answer to health care reform and I'm pleased he is joining the legal fight to have this troubling measure declared unconstitutional."
