Inglis currently serves on two committees in the House of Representatives for the 111th Congress.

Science and Technology

Ranking Member on the Energy & Environment Subcommittee

The Science and Technology Committee has jurisdiction over all non-defense federal scientific research and development (R&D;). Federal agencies that fall under the Committee's jurisdiction (either completely or partially) include: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Fire Administration, and U.S. Geological Survey.

Science Committee

The Science and Technology Committee is responsible for overseeing research and development programs at all of the above agencies. In doing so, the Committee monitors these programs to ensure that Federal tax dollars are being spent wisely and efficiently and that America's Federal science and technology enterprise maintains its world preeminence.

Inglis also serves as Ranking Member of the Energy & Environment Subcommittee on Science and Technology, one of four subcommittees on Science. The Energy & Environment Subcommittee has authority on all matters relating to science policy including: Office of Science and Technology Policy; the National Science Foundation, university research and areas dealing with agricultural, biological, life science and materials research. The subcommittee also deals with computers, communications, information technology, and research partnerships.

Foreign Affairs

Subcommittees: Europe, Middle East & Southeast Asia

The Committee on Foreign Affairs oversees the State Department and the United States' diplomatic agenda. The committee focuses extensively on building alliances with other nations, as the United States continues fighting the war on terrorism throughout the globe.

It also has oversight and legislative responsibility for international security, non-proliferation and disarmament issues, international crime, narcotics, terrorism and espionage issues, U.S. Department of State and related agency operations, U.S. foreign assistance, global human rights, and various other issues related to U.S. foreign policy interests. In general, the Committee conducts ongoing meetings with foreign political leaders and United States government Administration officials. These meetings allow Committee Members the opportunity to explore the effectiveness of the Administration's implementation of foreign policy.

Additionally, the Committee has jurisdiction for acquisition of land and building for embassies and legation in foreign countries, establishment of boundary lines between the United States and foreign nations, international conferences and congresses, United Nation organizations, international education, foreign loans, diplomatic service, international economic policy, measures to foster commercial intercourse with foreign nations and to safeguard American business abroad, the American National Red Cross, and the protection of American citizens abroad.

Inglis serves on the Subcommittee on the Middle East & South Asia; the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment; and the Subcommittee on Europe, three of the seven subcommittees on Foreign Affairs.
