Hoyer Statement on Veterans Day PDF Print E-mail

WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Veterans Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow:

“Tomorrow, on Veterans Day, we honor and thank the generations of men and women whose sacrifices have made our freedom possible. We celebrate those veterans fortunate enough to return home to their families and neighbors—and we gratefully remember all those who cannot be with us, whether they are standing guard around the world, or whether they lost their lives in our nation’s service.

“Just as our veterans and their families have kept faith with us, we must keep faith with them. In Congress, we have worked to do so by improving the VA system and cutting red tape, and by passing a 21st Century GI Bill to help post-9/11 veterans achieve a college education. To those who cannot return, our responsibility is just as vital: to remember their great sacrifices with solemn gratitude, and to wisely use the freedom they lived to defend.”
