Economy

I entered Congress at a time when the country was only a few months down the road to recovery following the almost complete collapse of our financial sector. Learning from the lessons of the Great Depression and other economic crises, I am a proud supporter of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and other jobs bills, creating jobs in the short term while leaving lasting infrastructure projects that will serve our nation for decades. In December 2009, I voted for the Jobs for Main Street Act, which if signed into law, would create well over half a million jobs while investing billions in education, transportation, and energy independence.

My commitment to job growth extends directly to the 10th Congressional District, where I hosted a Job Resources Fair at Diablo Valley College in April 2010. I continue my work fighting Wall Street greed to prevent future financial sector crises, and I am a proud supporter of legislation that will ease credit access for small businesses. After recently witnessing the largest one-month increase in job growth in three years and the largest growth in America’s wealth in six years, I join most economists in believing our country is on the right track, but I also recognize that we have much work still to do.
