OKI_Brent_Spence_Press_04-20-09_013Rep. Driehaus, Rep. Geoff Davis, and Sen. George Voinovich discuss the Brent Spence Bridge project.

Greater Cincinnati sits at a crossroads of the transportation infrastructure that is critical to our economy and essential for transit throughout the country. Our airports and waterways, highways and railroads provide access for local commerce to get to national and international markets, and serve as a vital trade corridor for our region of the country.

As we continue to invest in traditional modes of transit, we must begin to devote additional resources into rail and mass transit systems. These efforts will not only ease congestion, but also decrease our impact on the environment. As the House of Representatives begins to work on the six-year Transportation Authorization Bill, I am excited to support projects such as the Brent Spence Bridge that will allow greater Cincinnati to prosper.

We share an opportunity to revitalize our older communities and develop new communities. Ensuring that residents and businesses have access to clean water and modern sewer systems is critically important to our growing region. I am proud to have successfully offered an amendment to the Water Quality Investment Act which expanded grant money from $1.8 billion to $2.5 billion dollars to combat sewer overflow.

The First District faces significant challenges to meet our wide-ranging transportation and infrastructure needs. I will continue to work diligently to ensure that greater Cincinnati receives support and resources to help rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and lay the groundwork for future growth and development.
