REPRESENTATIVE DRIEHAUS WELCOMES $1.3 MILLION FOR UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI

WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Steve Driehaus today welcomed an announcement by the National Science Foundation (NSF) of an award of $1,312,113 for the University of Cincinnati.  These funds will support non-medical research efforts and construction efforts at the university.

“This is great news for the University of Cincinnati.  These funds will help UC continue as a leading research university,” said Rep. Driehaus.

The National Science Foundation provides support for research and education in non-medical fields of science.  According to the National Science Foundation, the agency receives more than 40,000 requests for funding every year and grants funding to approximately 11,000 of those requests. A project receiving $1,200,000 will go to renovating the chemistry facilities at the University.  A research project entitled “NSF/FDA Scholar-in-Residence at FDA: Nonlinear Derating in Pre-Clinical Testing of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Systems,” will receive $112,113 and will be under the direction of Dr. Rupak Banerjee from the College of Engineering.
