Gullah-Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor

Briggs-DeLaine-Pearson Connector

Dear Friends,

I would like to share with you a recent 20-page section in The State newspaper entitled Crossing a Great Divide regarding the Briggs-DeLaine-Pearson Connector.  This indepth look at this project (View article here:  http://www.thestate.com/463/index.html) is the most comprehensive and thoughtful piece ever produced regarding the Connector and my support for it.  I hope you will take the time to read this extraordinary piece.  Understand the history of the area, the complex issues driving this debate, and meet the people who will be impacted by it.

Briggs-DeLaine-Pearson Connector

I don't ask that everyone agree with my position, but I do hope that you are fully informed about the issues involved before forming an opinion.

This special section begins with the statement: "This is a story about a congressman, a bridge and a swamp.  It's about history and memory.  Race and class.  Land and power.  And it asks: What do we want South Carolina to look like?"  I hope you will read Claudia Smith Brinson's work and help find an answer to that important question.

Sincerely,
James E. Clyburn Signature
