Congressman Earl Blumenauer announced the award of three grants to local agencies that will help area veterans find new training and employment opportunities. As of April, statewide estimates form the Oregon National Guard Reintegration Team showed that 157 of the 2,700 soldiers returning from the 41st Brigade were homeless and 51 percent did not have jobs. 20 percent of the 650 homeless individuals surveyed for the Common Ground Vulnerability Index in Portland were veterans. The Oregon recipients have proven records of working to help homeless veterans transition back into the civilian workforce.

Community Solutions for Clackamas County was awarded $500,000 and Central City Concern received two grants, one for $500,000 for new job training for vets and one for $75,000 for job training for homeless Oregon women veterans with families.

The Community Solutions program will provide veterans with green job training. Veterans will receive skills assessments, individual job counseling, labor market information, classroom or on-the-job training for green jobs. Their program serves Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.
