Biography

2010-05-28_0036_EC.jpgCongressman Charles Djou represents the First Congressional District in Hawaii. The First Congressional District comprises the urban core of Honolulu from the eastern shores of Oahu to the western areas of Ewa and Mililani, and includes Waikiki and Downtown. He is a member of the House Budget Committee and the House Armed Services Committee.

Congressman Djou previously served on the Honolulu City Council and in the Hawaii State House, where he was Minority Floor Leader. He also served as Vice Chair of the Hawaii Republican Party.

A child of immigrants, Congressman Djou’s parents emigrated from China and Thailand. The Congressman grew up in Hawaii. He graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu and the University of Pennsylvania earning degrees in Political Science and Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. He received his juris doctor from the University of Southern California Law School.

The Congressman has been an active member of the community in Honolulu. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association and the Neighborhood Board for his area. He is a member of the Kamehameha Lions Club and has been a member of the Young Business Roundtable, the Rotary Club, and the Hawaii Telecommunications Association.

Congressman Djou is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. And he has taught at the University of Hawaii Richardson School of Law, the University of Hawaii West Oahu, and Hawaii Pacific University.

Congressman Djou is married to Stacey Kawasaki Djou. Together, they have three children.
