Delahunt, Local Officials Kick Off Green Harbor Dredging Project Monday

11/05/2009
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep Bill Delahunt today announced that on Monday November 9th, he will join local officials in the Town of Marshfield to “kick-off” the long awaited Green Harbor dredging project.

“Maintaining our waterways is critical to the economic vitality of our coastal communities,” said Delahunt. “I am pleased we were able to secure the federal funds for this important project so that our fishermen, recreational boaters and emergency responders can have safe access to the sea.”

The event will take place on Monday November 9 at 1:00 P.M. at the Ocean Deck Restaurant in Marshfield. The project includes removing 60,000 cubic yards of sand and silt from the harbor, which is federally managed. The US Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing the project. Currently, access to the inner part of the harbor is severely restricted. Once the project is complete, boaters will be able to navigate into and out of the harbor with ease. Work is scheduled for completion on or before January 31, 2010.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Mike Dimeo, Marshfield Harbormaster. “This project is something everyone has been eagerly awaiting. The last time the harbor was dredged was 1982.”
