Delahunt: U.S. Service Academy Deadline Approaching

10/07/2009
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bill Delahunt today reminded interested local families that the application deadline for nominations to US Service Academies is coming up fast.

The deadline for area students to apply to be nominated by Rep. Delahunt for academic year 2010-2011 is November 1, 2009.

At an informational forum sponsored recently by Delahunt at Marshfield’s Martinson Elementary School, local residents consulted personally with a variety of Academy officials.  Stressing the superb and tuition-free higher education offered at each of the Service Academies, Rep. Delahunt urged interested South Shore and Cape & Islands high school students to submit a completed application by the upcoming deadline.  After November 1, a panel of distinguished local residents will get to work immediately to evaluate and interview nomination candidates.  As a result, no applications can be accepted late.

Until the deadline, nomination applications are available by filling out a web-form on the Congressman’s website at http://www.house.gov/delahunt/academy.shtml. For further details students and their families may contact the Congressman’s office at 1-800-794-9911.

The nominations apply to students interested in the US Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Merchant Marine Academy. To be eligible, a candidate must be a resident of the Tenth Congressional District and a high school graduate by June 2010.
