WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep Bill Delahunt today announced that he will join Monday with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mayor Tom Koch, and students from the Broad Meadows Middle School to present the City of Quincy with a check for $3,760,000 in federal funding for the Broad Meadows Marsh restoration project.

The event, which is open to the media, starts at 1:00 PM on Monday October, 19 at the Broad Meadows Middle School in Quincy. Delahunt and local officials plan to walk through the Broad Meadows project site which involves restoring approximately 80 acres of salt marsh habitat, coastal grassland, and saltwater channels and ponds. Once the restoration is complete, the area will see a return of estuarine fish and wildlife communities. A portion of the dredged material is planned to be used to create an upland site containing walkways and benches for passive recreation. Although the award for the contract has yet to be finalized, the Army Corps of Engineers is confident that matters will be resolved in the near future.

The site visit will be followed by a check presentation in the school’s auditorium. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held entirely in the cafeteria.
