Seven Delahunt Nominees To Attend U.S. Service Academies

07/20/2009
WASHINGTON, DC – Today U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt announced that an impressive number of local nominees have been invited to attend U.S. Service Academies next year.

“At a time when our armed forces face new challenges around the globe, these impressive young men and women have embraced this opportunity for a first class education, while devoting themselves to serving our country, “ Delahunt said. “Their families, friends and teachers can take enormous pride in their commitment.”

With the new academic year almost upon us, Delahunt praised 7 local high school seniors who have accepted offers to begin studies this summer at the Naval, Military, and Merchant Marine Academies. All were nominated by Delahunt earlier this year.

The Service Academies extended admission offers to over 30% of Delahunt’s nominees. Nationally, the average acceptance rate is 10%. Delahunt attributed the high rate of success to the quality of the local applicants and to the work of members of the Tenth Congressional District Service Academy Nomination Committee. This panel of eight distinguished area residents meticulously reviewed each application. The Congressman then forwarded the Committee’s recommendations directly to the Academies’ admissions offices.
