WASHINGTON, DC – U.S Rep. Bill Delahunt announced today the release of $848,274 in Homeless Prevention Formula Grant funds to the city of Quincy from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide assistance to the homeless.

“This HUD funding will be used to augment community-based initiatives in Quincy to address the urgent needs of those who are homeless or in danger of losing their homes,” Delahunt said. “In these difficult economic times, local organizations providing shelter and transitional housing assistance and working literally overtime to keep up with the demands for services.”

The Homelessness Prevention Fund provides services to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and help those without housing to find a place to live. Funding is used for a variety of assistance, including short-term rental aid, housing relocation and stabilization services, mediation, credit counseling, utility payments and case management.

HUD is allocating $1.5 billion in Homeless Prevention Formula Grants nationally through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to state and local governments so that they may target their own homelessness populations and priorities.
