House Recovery Bill Boosts Education Aid

01/28/2009
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt announced today that the economic recovery plan now before the House includes a significant boost in funding for local school districts.

"It will be impossible for our nation to weather the economic storm without providing a fiscal lifeline to our local schools and teachers,” Delahunt said.  “This recovery package will provide a critical boost to local budgets and school departments that are now finding themselves in serious financial trouble.”

The funding for education comes as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which is a job creation and economic growth initiative.

It includes critical education investments that nationwide will create or save hundreds of thousands of jobs, provide immediate relief to schools and colleges reeling from state budget cutbacks, and give workers the training and support they need to help move our economy forward.

Delahunt’s office is releasing an estimate based on information provided to his office by the House Appropriations Committee.  The chart breaks down what each school district can expect to receive in Title 1 Education funding, construction, and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding.
