WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight will hold a joint hearing with the Higher Education Subcommittee of the Committee on Education and Labor to unveil a new program to enroll 7,500 students from developing countries in American colleges and universities
At the hearing experts on American higher education will comment on the proposed “Uniting Students in America (USA)” scholarship program, which is being released by Chairman Delahunt and Chairman Don Payne of the Africa Subcommittee.
The USA proposal comes in the wake of a report released last week by Delahunt’s subcommittee, “The Decline in America’s Reputation: Why?” That report documented both the decline in favorability toward the United States since the invasion of Iraq, and the potential for international student contacts to help reverse the decline.
