Delahunt Continues War Powers Hearings Thursday With Leading Constitutional Scholars

04/08/2008

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bill Delahunt’s Foreign Affairs Subcommittee will hold the second of a series of hearings on Thursday on “War Powers in the 21st Century.”  This hearing brings together as witnesses some of America’s foremost legal scholars and litigators on the war powers.  They will testify on the constitutionality and the practicality of both the existing War Powers Resolution and a bill to modernize it that has been introduced by Representative Walter Jones Jr. and Chairman Delahunt.

The first hearing in the series featured testimony from current and former legislators, and future hearings will focus on the perspectives of the executive branch and the armed forces.   Delahunt is using the hearings to gather analysis and suggestions from experts before asking Congress to take up the Jones-Delahunt proposal.
