Delahunt Sponsors Renewable Fuels Forum On Cape Cod

04/01/2008

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Delahunt announced today that he will be sponsoring a biofuels forum on Tuesday April 8, 2008  at the Yarmouth Town from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“Expanding the market for renewable fuels will not only help the environment, but give consumers additional domestic fuel options that will help lessen our dependence on foreign oil,” said Delahunt. “This forum will provide an understanding of the relatively painless nature of transitioning gasoline fleets to a blend of 85% ethanol and will cover the environmental and health benefits associated with this change.”

The discussion will feature experts who will share their experiences as well as provide information on ethanol as a renewable fuel for transportation. They will discuss benefits and the potential for local production as well as controversies concerning the production of ethanol.

Delahunt will kick off the forum and be joined by Senator Rob O’Leary who shares the Congressman’s interest in expanding the use of renewable fuel alternatives on the Cape and Islands, south shore and Commonwealth.

Congressman Delahunt helped form the Cape Cod Renewable Fuels Partnership a 18 months ago with help from the Cape Cod Commission and the Cape and Islands Self-Reliance Corporation. Since that time, the group has been dedicated to developing a Renewable Fuels Strategic Implementation Plan for Cape Cod and funding to subsidize fuel and infrastructure needed to support this plan. A number of towns, private companies, interested organizations, as well as state and federal agencies have been involved in the Partnership activities.

Organizations that will be making presentations include: The Verenium Corporation, The Northeast Biofuels Collaborative,  The Wellfleet Group,  BioEnergy International, LLC,  Dennis K. Burke, Inc.,  Gulf Oil/Cumberland Farms,  Gilbarco Veeder Root,  The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and the Cape Cod Commission
