Tenth District Student Art Competition Winners To Be Announced At South Shore Exhibition

04/14/2008

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bill Delahunt announced today that he would make all entries from the 10th Congressional District Art Competition available for public viewing and display at the Art Museum Complex in Duxbury from Friday April 18 through Sunday April 20.

“The variety and quality of this student work is a real testament to the artistic talent and potential in our region,” said Delahunt, adding that the opportunity to encourage and witness the artistic expression of the district’s young people is one of the most enjoyable parts of his own job.

A reception will kick off the exhibition in Duxbury to honor the South Shore and Cape & Islands high school participants from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, April 18 at the Art Museum Complex on 189 Alden Street. Hours and directions for the center are available at http://www.artcomplex.org/

Roughly a hundred and fifty entries were submitted from students throughout the 10th Congressional District – which include paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, photographs and computer graphics. The contest’s top winner will be shipped to Washington, DC to be displayed for a full year in the US Capitol and will be offered a $20,000 scholarship to the Savannah School of Design in Savannah GA. The winner will also be presented with 3 round trip tickets from a representative of a local airline to attend the national reception held in Washington, DC this June.

All submissions are now being reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Given the enthusiastic interest among students and high caliber of art, Delahunt wanted to make sure all entries would be on display.

While prizes will be awarded, Delahunt said, “The overall objective is to recognize and encourage the artistic potential of all our kids.”

More information about the competition is available from Rep. Delahunt’s office, toll-free, at 800-794-9911 -- or online at www.house.gov/delahunt/artcomp.shtml.
