BRADY ISSUES STATEMENT ON “BUY AMERICA” LEGISLATION

Washington, DC (September 15, 2010):  House Administration Chairman Robert A. Brady issued a statement today applauding passage of the H.R. 2039 – The Congressional Made in America Promise Act of 2009.  The legislation extends the provisions of the Buy American Act to the legislative branch and reinforces the requirement on products bearing a Congressional seal.

“As Democrats in Congress work to re-energize our nation’s economy, it is crucial that we lead the way in supporting American businesses,” said Brady.  “By requiring that the buying power of Congress be directed to businesses owned by Americans, we take a significant step in further fueling our economy, and helping to generate jobs for hard working Americans. There is no higher priority or more important goal for this Congress.”

“I commend the bill sponsors, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur of Ohio and Congressman Phil Hare of Illinois, as well as my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for supporting this legislation. I urge the Senate to act swiftly to consider and pass this bill.”
