Veteran picture

Thank you for your interest in the Veterans History Project. 

The Veterans History Project (VHP) is an ongoing effort of the Library of Congress and the American Folklife Center to collect the personal accounts of American war veterans.  Through interviews and preservation of historical documents such as correspondence and photographs, the VHP ensures that future generations will be able to hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.

America’s veterans deserve our highest honor and recognition.  The VHP is one way that we can ensure that the service and valor of our veterans is never forgotten and Senator Shaheen is honored to join the Library of Congress and American Folklife Center in promoting this important project.        

Over one hundred New Hampshire veterans have already shared their personal stories through the VHP.  We hope you will use this webpage as a resource and consider adding your or a loved one’s story to the collection.

    Walter Borowski was born January 5, 1920 in Derry, New Hampshire, where he grew up and still lives today.

  • Bob Blanchard

    Private First Class Robert “Bob” Blanchard was drafted into the Army and served in the 7779 Medical Detachment in the Korean War.

  • Frank Childs

    Petty Officer 2nd Class Frank Childs enlisted in the Navy just prior to graduating from New Hampshire College.  He served in the Vietnam War in the Navy’s Mobile Construction Battalion 10 and Fighter Squadron.

  • Wayne Burton

    Captain Wayne Burton entered the service through Bowdoin College’s ROTC program.  He served in the Vietnam War in the Army’s 9th Infantry Division.

  • David Albro

    Sergeant David Albro served in the Vietnam War in the Army’s 1st Calvary Regiment. While in Vietnam, Sergeant Albro worked as an explosives engineer, destroying enemy tunnels.

  • Evangeline Tappin

    Second Lieutenant Evangeline Tappin served in World War II as an Army nurse.  She carried out her service at Fort Devens in Lowell, Massachusetts.
