SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES $20 MILLION FOR PORTSMOUTH MEMORIAL BRIDGE

October 15, 2010

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today announced that the New Hampshire Department of Transportation will receive $20 million to replace Portsmouth's  Memorial Bridge.  The award was issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation under its TIGER II program.

"I am thrilled to hear that these funds will be coming to New Hampshire to replace the Memorial Bridge," Shaheen said.  "This bridge is critical to the Seacoast and New Hampshire's economy, and this award gives the State the support it needs to get the job done."

On September 13, Senator Shaheen led a letter from the New England delegation urging Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to select the New Hampshire application.  Shaheen had spoken with Secretary LaHood several times about the project and praised Secretary LaHood for his efforts.

"This was a bipartisan effort on the part of the New Hampshire and Maine delegations and we're all very grateful for Secretary LaHood's understanding of the critical importance of this project and for making this a priority," Shaheen said.
