BACHUS: SPEAKER, MAJORITY TAKE A WALK ON TAXES PDF Print

WASHINGTON (September 29) – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) issued the following statement on the refusal by Speaker Pelosi and the Democrat majority in the House to stop a record $3.8 trillion tax increase from taking effect at the end of the year.  Instead of allowing a vote on extending tax relief for all Americans, the majority voted to adjourn and leave Washington for the rest of the fall.

"The very least that American families and businesses should be able to expect from Washington is an honest answer as to what the future holds in regards to taxation.  Speaker Pelosi and the Democrat majority in Congress are compounding the uncertainty holding back the economy by refusing to extend tax relief for all Americans.  The result will be a record tax increase that would cost the average family in Alabama at least $1500 a year and  hit struggling small businesses even worse.  It’s more irresponsibility from a majority that didn’t even pass a budget this year. The people expect their representatives to work on solutions, not take a walk from problems, so this is ugly end to a dispiriting chapter in Congress."
