Washington, Oct 1 -

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-6-MD) today announced that the Cumberland Police Department in Allegany County will receive a $687,897 federal grant to create/preserve law enforcement officer jobs.

Congressman Bartlett said, “I want to congratulate the Cumberland Police Department for winning this competitive $687,897 grant. If the federal government is going to spend Allegany County residents’ taxpayer dollars on police officers, I want as many of those dollars as possible spent here in western Maryland where our police officers and departments do a great job of protecting us and keeping our communities safe.”

This grant is from the Department of Justice (DOJ) through the COPS Hiring Program in the COP office. The purpose of the COPS Hiring Program is to award grants to create and/or preserve law enforcement jobs.
