Natural Resources

Virginia is home to an abundant supply of pristine lands and waterways.  From the Chesapeake Bay to the rolling hills of the Appalachian Mountains, Virginia has one of the most diverse natural environments in the nation.

It is critically important that we protect Virginia’s landscapes and habitats for future generations, outdoor enthusiasts and tourists to enjoy. But the benefits of protecting our environment go well beyond recreational value. The public health of Virginia’s 7.8 million residents relies on a healthy environment.

The economic vitality of the Commonwealth also requires proper stewardship of our land and waterways.  Our agricultural sector is the largest part of the Virginia economy, and the success of crop and livestock cultivation depends on clean water and soil.  Likewise, our fishing and watermen industries are impacted by the health of waterways like the Potomac, James and Rappahannock Rivers.

I will continue to support federal initiatives designed to help states and local governments preserve green space, improve air quality, reduce pollution that runs off into our waterways, and offer Americans a healthier quality of life.
