You sent me to Washington to provide leadership on a number of issues, rooted in a larger philosophical purpose. Among these, our highest priorities are to:

• Institute policies that enhance our standing in the international community,

• Promote economic fairness for all Americans, and

• Ensure accountability and transparency in government.
  

With the dozens of legislative measures that get debated weekly in Congress, it is easy to get distracted from that bigger picture. But, I remain deeply mindful of what we came here to do. My staff and I keep our principal themes at the forefront of our work, each and every day.
