Committee Assignments

Due to the vast amount of bills and issues that Members of Congress must handle on a daily basis, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate divide their tasks among Committees and Subcommittees. The House and Senate each have their own committee system, which are similar. Congressman Grayson serves on two committees and two subcomittees in the U.S. House of Representatives:

House Committee on Financial Services
House Committee on Science and Technology
Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations 
Science and Technology Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight

Financial Services Committee

The Committee oversees all components of the nation’s housing and financial services sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities. The Committee continually reviews the laws and programs relating to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and international development and finance agencies such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The Committee also ensures enforcement of housing and consumer protection laws such as the U.S. Housing Act, the Truth In Lending Act, the Housing and Community Development Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Community Reinvestment Act, and financial privacy laws.

Science and Technology Committee

This committee is responsible for overseeing research and development programs for nearly all non-defense federal scientific agencies including: 
  • All energy research, development, and demonstration, and projects therefor, and all Federally owned or operated nonmilitary energy laboratories
  • Astronautical research and development, including resources, personnel, equipment, and facilities
  • Civil aviation research and development
  • Environmental research and development
  • Marine research
  • Commercial application of energy technology
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology, standardization of weights and measures, and the metric system
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
  • National Space Council
  • National Science Foundation
  • National Weather Service
  • Outer space, including exploration and control thereof
  • Science Scholarships
