Committee Information

Scott Garrett currently serves on two standing committees in the House of Representatives: the House Financial Services Committee and the House Budget Committee.

Financial Services Committee

At the beginning of the 111th Congress, Garrett was selected to serve as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government-Sponsored Enterprises for the House Financial Services Committee.  In this role, Garrett is the top Republican of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Securities and Exchange Commission and government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The subcommittee also handles all matters related to the insurance industry, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, capital markets activities such as business capital formation and venture capital, and derivative instruments.  Garrett is also a member of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.

Budget Committee

As a member of the Budget Committee, Garrett works to bring fiscal discipline and accountability to the federal government.  Some of the responsibilities for the Budget Committee include legislative oversight of the federal budget process, reviewing all bills and resolutions on the budget, and monitoring agencies and programs funded outside of the budgetary process.
