Celebrating 75 years of Social Security
Written by Russ Carnahan
Seventy-five years ago tomorrow, President Franklin Roosevelt ensured that seniors would no longer be faced with abject poverty when they retired by creating Social Security. This program serves a vital function to American workers - guaranteeing that they can retire with dignity and security.

If Republicans had their way when President Bush was in office they would have privatized Social Security, but we stopped them. Now, they're at it again.

Even though millions of Americans saw their 401(k)s and other retirement savings gambled away by Wall Street speculators there are some trying once again to privatize Social Security.

We cannot jeopardize the retirement security of millions of Americans in order to pad the wallets of Wall Street CEOs. I am committed to making sure Social Security remains strong for your children, and their children's children.
