Helping small businesses hire
Written by Russ Carnahan
We need to look out for small businesses on Main Street, not big bankers on Wall Street. As I’ve traveled around my home district in Missouri, small business owners have said loud and clear that they need more access to credit in order to hire more workers and put people to work. Small businesses are the engines of our economy, and access to credit is the fuel they need to run.

Legislation passed last week by the House of Representatives will free up lending for small businesses, bolstering programs designed to increase small business lending and helping small businesses hire new workers and expand their operations. You can view a short speech I delivered about this bill by clicking here.

As we continue to work our way out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, we must focus our efforts on things that are proven to help grow jobs – and history has shown us that helping free up capital for small businesses is one of the best ways to spur job growth.

On Friday, July 9 my office will conduct a free one-day workshop to help area small businesses plan, expand and hire more workers. If you run a small business or know someone who does and are interested in participating, please call 314-962-1523.
