Washington, D.C., Dec 1 - Annual award honors policy-makers for leadership on high-tech issues

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) today announced Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) as a 2010 recipient of its annual US Cyber Champion Award. Established in 1998, the award recognizes policy-makers for their leadership in promoting policies that strengthen the high-tech industry and create high-skill, high-wage jobs for Americans.

As the Ranking Member of the House Ways & Means Committee, Rep. Camp has served as a strong champion for the technology industry, working to protect intellectual property, lowering barriers to market entry in countries such as China, and fighting for an even playing field for competing technologies. He has also been a vocal proponent of spurring technological innovation over the long term by making R&D tax credits permanent.

“When it comes to advocating for the technology industry and the millions of American jobs it supports, Congressman Camp has a tremendous record,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman. “He truly understands the value our industry can bring to the US economy, which is why we’re so pleased to honor him with the 2010 Cyber Champion Award.”

Rep. Camp said, “I am honored to receive the US Cyber Champion Award from the Business Software Alliance. The software industry is responsible for hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and its success and innovations are vital to our long-term economic prosperity. We need to ensure America’s tax and trade policies are pro-growth and US intellectual property rights are protected to allow American employers like the software industry to expand in the US and compete globally. I look forward to continuing to work with BSA to achieve this goal.”

Recent Cyber Champion Award recipients have included Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). A full list of past winners can be found here.
