Foreclosure Assistance Print E-mail

Today's great recession is rooted in the housing crisis and Ohio suffers disproportionately with home foreclosures. To successfully rebuild our economy, we must address the crisis in our housing market. More than 6400 homeowners filed for foreclosure in the 16th congressional district in 2008.

Congress acted responsibly to stem the tide of foreclosures. We began that process earlier this year when the House passed the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act. This bill:

  • Helps refinance loans into lower interest rates for some families in traditional mortgages who owe more on their house than its current appraised value;
  • Modifies loans for some families stuck in sub-prime mortgages;
  • Gives bankruptcy judges the chance to modify existing mortgages; and
  • Gives lenders more confidence to modify loans by protecting them from some lawsuits.

I believe the success of our communities begins at home. We all stand to lose if we don't stop the decline in housing prices. Stabilizing the housing market is key to rebuilding America's economy.

If you or someone you know is about to enter into home foreclosure, there are several resources available for help. Please scroll though this page for a selection of services and agencies in each county across the 16th Congressional District that stand ready to provide assistance. In addition, my office can put you in touch with the most appropriate agency or contact. Please call my office at 1-800-826-9015.
