Jay Inslee: Washington's 1st Congressional District

HOME

The Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC; also known as the “Sustainable Energy and Environment Caucus”) was founded at the start of the 111th United States Congress to be a strong voice in the U.S. House of Representatives in advancing policies that promote clean energy innovation and domestic manufacturing, develop renewable energy resources, create green collar jobs, and help arrest global warming and protect our nation’s clean air, water and natural environment.

SEEC was founded by co-chairs Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), and other Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives. These members of Congress are dedicated to the creation of American jobs, the fight for energy independence, and the reversal of the environmental degradations that threaten our children’s and our planet’s future. They will work closely with the White House and other members and groups in Congress in the pursuit of their energy and environmental policy priorities.

In its first year of existence, SEEC has begun to promote and affect positive change in these areas. In early 2009, the coalition played a significant role in passing the clean energy investments included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. In June, SEEC helped to pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009; legislation aimed at lowering U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and ushering in a new, prosperous American clean energy economy.

SEEC Members continue to work on policies that will protect America’s environment and natural resources, invest in American businesses and clean energy jobs, and move the United States toward a more secure and independent energy future.
