Internships

Thank you for your interest in applying for an internship with Congressman Ted Deutch's office. The office accepts intern applications on a rolling basis. All internships are unpaid, however, the office can help arrange for academic credit. Interns are responsible for all housing and travel related costs. Students in college, law school, graduate school, or senior year of high school are welcome to apply for internships. Due to limited space, not all applications can be accommodated.

Interns are expected to have an interest in the political process, exceptional writing skills, and a professional demeanor and attire.

Internships are available in the Congressman's Washington, DC office and district headquarters in Boca Raton, FL. Interns working in Boca Raton have the opportunity to assist constituent representatives with federal casework and learn firsthand how a congressional office interacts with the local community. Interns working in Washington, DC assist the staff by conducting research, writing constituent letters, and attending briefings and hearings. Both experiences provide valuable knowledge of the inner workings of a congressional office.

Summer internships typically last six weeks, while semester-long internships are available in the spring and fall. Preference is given to applicants from South Florida.

All slots have been filled for the summer of 2010. The office is currently accepting internship applications for fall 2010 and spring 2011. To apply for an internship, please submit a cover letter and resume to Congressman Deutch's senior advisor, Casey Kustin by email or fax to 202-225-5974. Your cover letter must indicate the following:
  • Your dates of availability to intern and the hours you can work
  • Why you are seeking to intern for Congressman Deutch
  • Previous work experience and academic goals
