WASHINGTON (August 27, 2010)—Yesterday at an event at City Hall in Harrodsburg, Chandler joined U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials to announce funding to help the City of Harrodsburg update their water system. Last February, Congressman Chandler announced $1.3 million to help Harrodsburg update its wastewater infrastructure.
Chandler said at the event: “We need to see more economic growth in Mercer so we can create more jobs. But it is hard to have economic growth without building good, solid infrastructure. These two projects will help Harrodsburg do just that.”
This $7,700,000 loan and $3,300,000 grant from the USDA and the Recovery Act—which Congressman Chandler supported—will expand the city’s current water treatment plant to meet the needs of its over 3,700 customers. The expansion will include a low-level uptake at the Kentucky River, constructing a 600,000 gallon water storage tank, and a pump station. The water system is expected to generate enough funding to repay the new loan and all existing debt.
