320 Jobs Saved in Jessamine County
In Jessamine County

WASHINGTON (August 25, 2010)—Today, at an event in Nicholasville, Congressman Ben Chandler and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials announced a small business loan from the Recovery Act to help Jessamine County’s McKechnie Vehicle Components save 320 local jobs.

“320 jobs is no small thing,” Chandler said. “Each day we are seeing more and more jobs going to China, and today we are seeing over 300 manufacturing jobs stay right here in Central Kentucky. The USDA and the Recovery Act were hard at work today for Jessamine County.”

Chandler and USDA officials announced a Rural Development Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan for $5 million to aid McKechnie Vehicle Components, a leading manufacturer of products for the automotive industry. The loan was made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act)—which Congressman Chandler supported—and the USDA.  Citizens Commercial National Bank agreed to provide the loan.

The funding will be used to make energy-efficient improvements, utilize waste material to manufacture new products, cover the cost of tooling for new parts, create new programs, enhance profitability, promote job stabilization, and to expand the business. McKechnie’s customers include Toyota, GM, Ford, VW, and Chrysler.

A subsidiary of MVC Holdings and a 51% female-owned business, McKechnie has been designing, developing and manufacturing plastic and metal components for the automotive industry for over 60 years.
