U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. 26th District of Texas

The House Republican Conference, recognizing the tight budgetary constraints our country finds itself in, has unanimously voted to place a moratorium on individual Member Appropriations and Authorizations requests, commonly known as earmarks. While recognizing Congress’ Constitutional authority to direct spending as it sees fit, I welcome this moratorium as a means of proving to the American people that Congress truly must get its fiscal house in order. In accordance with this moratorium, I will not be submitting any further requests to FY 2011 Appropriations or Authorizations bills.
